The story of Daisy is now over 100 years old!
The Ladies Home Journal magazine began publishing Sheila Young's paper doll pages of a little girl named Lettie Lane & her family in October 1908.
...Lettie had a favorite doll named Daisy. Ladies Home Journal decided to offer a real Daisy doll as a premium for little girls who sold subscriptions to the magazine.
For 3 subscriptions plus $4.50 you could order a Daisy doll. Patterns for Daisy's clothes were sent free with each doll.
...Daisy became known as "Daisy, the doll that came to life." A total of 25,000 Daisy dolls were made. The Kestner doll firm made 5,000 (model 171) and 20,000 were made by the Handwerck firm.
Daisy is 18 inches tall and has beautiful golden curls, long eye lashes and pearly white teeth.
The first five outfits will be from this page: The Doll That Has Come To Life!
Now you too can have these beautiful outfits by knitting these fantastic adaptations!
...these outfits will perfectly fit any 14" to 18" doll, including the Kestner Daisy doll and the American Girl Doll.
